US festival to screen Iran’s ‘Icky’, ‘Sleepwalker’

‘Icky’ and ‘Sleepwalker’ from Iran are to go on screen at the 16th Kansas Int’l Film Festival in the US.

‘Icky’ and ‘Sleepwalker’, both from Iran, have been set to go on screen at the 16th edition of the Kansas International Film Festival (KIFF) in the US.

The 14-minute Iranian film ‘Sleepwalker’ directed by Behnam Afiat is set to go on the US screen on November 3, 2017.

‘Sleepwalker’ narrates the story of an on-call hospital doctor who goes to the hospital at midnight to treat an emergency patient. Slowly but surely, the boundary of reality and dream gets lost.

Screening of the 6-minute animation ‘Icky’ directed by Parastoo Cardgar is slated for November 9, 2017.

Cardgar’s animation tells the story of a child in a world where people have a solved Rubik’s cube as their heads, but the child’s head is different from everyone else. S/He has an unsolved Rubik's cube on the neck.

‘Icky’ has previously received several international awards from a variety of festivals, including best animation at Romania’s Short to the Point festival, best animation at Seattle Film Festival in the US, best director award at the Bollywood International Film Festival in India, and best animation award at the 16th Festival Internazionale del Cinema d’Arte in Italy.

The animation has also taken part at global film events such as the 12th edition of the Athens Animfest in Greece and the 10th edition of the annual Iranian Film Festival in San Francisco, the US.

Launched in 2001, the KIFF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of independent and classic cinema.

Using the art and power of film, the festival draws communities together to share diverse cultures, viewpoints and conversation.

The 16th edition of the KIFF is slated for November 3-9, 2017, in Glenwood Arts, Overland Park, the US state of Kansas.
